The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents met on Tuesday to discuss a variety of agenda items, among those being contract specifics for a number of OU athletics coaches.

While there are surely more details to come, with regards to both other football coaches as well as those from other OU sports, what we know right now is that Lincoln Riley just got paid. New salaries with stay bonuses: Although little more than a formality in many respects, both OU assistants, along with HC Bob Stoops, also received contract extensions as well. Bob Stoops' pre-bonus earnings per new contract… Man, I hope that Riley sticks around for a couple more years and continues getting better and better before he gets a seriously awesome job offer.

I think he will. Who knows but today is one more day closer to Labor Day Weekend!! Elite like OU lol. When Stoops retires it would be awesome if he were to step in. As long as he proved himself worthy. I think this will put Riley up there with the highest paid OC in power 5. He may not be the highest paid but he is up there with them.

This should allow us to keep him for a while at least. My hope is we keep him until he is the next HC at OU or until Gundy is ready to be the OC. There was a lot of speculation that Riley would take over after Stoops leaves if he decides to when his kids graduate high school. I would hate to let Riley go. Like 35 or something? Gundy would be 1b. I personally think Bob is here to stay at least until his sons graduate college.

Was not aware his kids were that good. I suppose we will see, though. And yeah, I see your point. A HC is not something you want to take a chance on. I think its very early that they had discussions about Bobs retirement. Hes locked in for the next five seasons….

There is a viable head coach that we can hire… if not within the tree its OU.. I hate them, but they now have been winning for three years, have an offensive mentality and are willing to break the law to keep their football success rolling. There will be some power five schools needing new coaches after this year but I do not imagine any of them will be quality enough to pull him with what he is making now.

Sure they could pam him more for the HC but when your making close to a million a year, playing in the CFB Playoffs and coaching with one of the best HC in football it will take a heck of a job to pull him away now.

Not to mention, your employer has been very loyal over time. So, even if he had a down year with player turnover, his job would probably not be questioned the way it seems to be at some other places. It would be questioned by the fickle OU fans in a relatively big way. Not by the administration at OU or Stoops. Everything you said sounds reasonable. Family stability, job stability, familiarity, relationships, kids, friends, etc… would outweigh job title and more money.

Mike and crew fielded a pretty good unit this past season. The new hires and the shuffling showed on the field. So a raise was probably warranted and seems they needed to bump him up to keep him above a 2nd year OC. Bill Bendenbaugh knocked it out of the park with recruiting Dru Samia… and others..

Love his offense but Bake made it work. If this were and we had Eric Moore, it would have been a much different story for LR. Having good players is a must, but all things being equal, his system is better than most out there.

He takes the best of the Mike Leach passing attack, balances it more with the run, and keeps it easy to understand for the players. So LR gets the same base as Mike…. Also, that Gundy and Kish only extended thru I doubt Bob is going to be around too much longer.

I think LR has the intelligence, the personality, the patience, the mindset and the system to be a national championship caliber coach. I think he can. I tend to think Rileys huge raise eliminates any chance of losing him to a mid major or to another P5 school as just an OC….

JMHO but Riley will be the next OU HC sooner than later…. Think Bob will do 20 yrs and retire to enjoy life with more than enough money in his account….

The head coach always has all sorts of incentives built in, so it could be 25K per year base and his incentives go up. I was curious to see what Murphy, Hutchins, etc.. Her efforts are worth a lot more money than that. From what I can tell, she is the highest paid softball coach by a large margin. She not only wins, but runs a clean program, her players have advanced professionally and she is really a uplifting, high character, great person.

No other sport makes money at a university other than football. There are some exceptions like Duke or Kansas for basketball. However, Kansas football stays afloat due to the Big 12 TV rev.

There are very few that do. Half-a-mil almost to coach softball seems like a pretty sweet gig. Especially in a cost-of-living area like Oklahoma. Gasso deserved a larger raise as did her staff and to be promised more facility upgrades ASAP….

How many times do you beat this dead horse. We get it, let it go. The block user function works! I have no idea what STD or Jeffy have said this week, awesome. I also have no doubt any concerns she has with the facilities are given substantial weight and will be addressed to her satisfaction.

I will let Patty complain if she is upset with her pay. Its not my place to complain on her behalf. I would trade her paychecks in a heartbeat! Only Tim Walton could be paid close to what Patty makes. If she was making much less, then I would agree that 5k is low. Recruiting is year round. As a matter of fact, Tenneesee got like 6 commits in one day last week.

We should be thankful to be able to give these coaches raises with the state of oklahoma education at the moment. I dont even know how many fundraisers i attended for my daughters school this year, just to keep her school afloat. I kept worrying the insulation that was coming out the gym ceiling was going to fall on us during multiple events lol.

Given the year we have had, I would guess the income has been pretty good. People should do that anyway, regardless of football. Education should not put you in debt for the rest of your life. I put myself through professional school with the help of student loans.

I also get no tax relief from the ridiculous amount of interest I pay each year. I go to school to better myself and my family only to be indebted to it for years to come. People are going to need student loans to get an education, but I believe there should be something done to help with the financial burden later in life. Student loans from the government cap at a certain dollar amount. I had to take out extra just to get by. Not going to mention the interest rate on the extra was almost triple what the government rate.

The ever increasing tuition makes me cringe for my kids when they are old enough to go to college. Sorry for the rant. I know, just looks bad from a perception standpoint. We give all these coaches raises, while we have to cut education budgets across the state.

I know we are one of the best schools in giving back to the education, but still, theres going to be some that are outraged, even if its necessary to stay competitive.

I could care less about the perceptions of the ignorant. Im not saying im against paying the guys, just that there are some that might be.

Im just glad we were able to. A silent minority can also get these things shut down.

Often they hide these taxes on ballots nobody is going to show up and vote on otherwise, then they get all their people out to vote.

One of my sons has run several campaigns. Most of what they did was make sure everyone knew when the vote was going to be and that it was going to raise taxes.

Yep, thats very true. They are trying to sneak these 2 taxes across, buddy of mine that works for the city had to tell me about them, had heard a peep anywhere else. Here in Alabama one of my sons helped get a new school tax defeated.

Not because people are against good schools, but because they had passed one a couple of years before. What did they do with it? Instead they spend it on high priced administrators, consultants, and complying with state and federal regs.

Almost exact same thing here man. Theres 2 new taxes on the docket, because they didnt do what they said they were going to do 3 years ago with the money they got then. These 2 are to retain teachers and new school buses. Its almost certainly going to pass.

Just wish they had done this with the money they already got. Do we really need superintendents in Oklahoma? Is he failing because his parents suck at life?

Let me ask you, where did you find that statistic? I get very tired of people claiming there is plenty of money in education, if they cut the fat. Believe me, the fat was cut in Oklahoma schools years ago.

In this state any tax that is voted on must be used for the stated purpose. The real winners are the major corporations. Hence we now find ourselves in the current financial bind.

So much for my rant! Little wonder public education in this country lags far behind those of Japan and others…. FWIW, I no longer have the time or patience to concern myself with it.

My children now attend private school at a cost well below the average of what is spent per child in the government run school system. Yes, private school is more efficient and my children are receiving an education that exceeds what would be available to them otherwise.

As for Boren, well, he can stay as an assistant with a small bump in pay. The only people at OU making more than Lincoln Riley are Bob Stoops, Lon Kruger, Joe Castiglione, Sherri Coale and Mike Stoops. I think maybe so. OU is not getting the return it should be.

AND the future is very bright for her. And not a Mike-like raise, but Bob. Bob is third best in the country. But we cannot fall back this year. We all agree that Lincoln deserved a big raise no doubt, but man Coach B and Coach Cooks I think could have used a sliver of LRs money to bump them up more. They have been recruiting and coaching giants. It is usually one or the other is a clear strength. Although Coach B lost a lot the year before he did ok. But the biggest thing needed to be locking down coach Cooks.

That man should have seen a greater raise than he did. The improvements the secondary made from two seasons ago to last were very noticeable.

Im not seeing it tho.. Who has he pulled in recruiting? You cant pay someone for recruits that have yet to sign and lost 2 defensive backs on signing day in his first season.. I think cooks is a great coach and a great recruiter but I dont agree that he should have been paid for one year of work..

Next year this time I hope to have a different opinion about paying him! They all oughta put some of that aside in a trust fund for Baker Mayfield. Without that kid, I doubt anybody would have gotten a raise. Without him we might be looking at a new coaching staff, working with TKPK6 after that season. Seems a little low to me, but then again oil money is tight these days. I have turned down many a close to double my salary. Happy where im at. MONEY being passed around!
