This case followed an earlier decision made by the High Court to quash a Ministerial Statement that sought to restrict affordable housing being sought on smaller development sites 10 units and fewer. The District Council has recently adopted the Joint Core Strategy, which includes Core Policy 1 — Affordable Housing.

This policy requires affordable housing provision on sites delivering 3 net additional dwellings, or more. Since adopting the Joint Core Strategy, the Government has published an update to the Planning Practice Guidance, which concerns thresholds for affordable housing provision.

In light of this, the Council will be applying Core Policy 1 within the context of this additional guidance regarding this matter. In designated rural areas i.

The above position and approach to affordable housing contributions has been agreed in consultation with the South Downs National Park Authority. The Core Strategy has been influenced by a number of background documents that can be found online.
