I know plenty of successful brokers that started in their late 40's and early 50's as 2nd careers. Maturity goes much farther in this business than "youthful energy". However, if you think you are over the hill at 34, you might have challenges. I agree age itself won't be a problem - in fact an asset.

The bigger question is how long are you willing to sacrifice financially? You'll almost inevitably make less money that you would almost anywhere else in the first few years.

If you can survive THAT, you have a chance to make serious change. Many your age can't persevere because of family financial commitments. I started at age 48 - 9 years ago - the shame of that statement is that I spent 5 years before that, worrying that I was too old to start a new career.

What an idiot I was.

Dont make the same mistake. I just turned 44 and I am greatly considering changing careers and becoming a stockbroker trainee. I like what Troll and the rest of you have said, but I need some more guidance and input.

That actually seems like a good age to get started in the biz.
